The News

The final chapters of the Mini Epic have been added to the story. We find that the friendly faerie, Faemydi, has a terrible past. Over six new pages, her story grows dark with her voyages across worlds.

The Mini Epic Gallery also features the new painting that appears in the story.

For Hallowe'en the Memory Game received a card update. You can now play the game using "creepy" cards that include Zombie Flys and Monsters Under the Bed.

The Mini Epic Gallery has just opened. As of now, it has only one image, but expect more in the coming months.

Zed has received quite a lot of additions within the past few days. Four new creatures adorn the section, all created for a game I am working on (practicing my Direct X programming).

Special thanks to Adam for sending me the specifications for Optifice, the creepy worm thing.

The most important addition to the Zed section was, of course, a link to it from the front page! Bimha (the bird) now guards the entrance to this 3D gallery.

A javascript game has been added to the site! It is the simple card based Memory game. Also, I have created a variant called Food Chain that is based on the idea of Memory, but should be a bit harder.

Key has been created in 3D and a render is currently sitting in Zed land.

Lastly, this News page has been greatly simplified.

Zed, the newest addition to Beet's World, is being born. Still in its infancy (i.e., under construction), this new section will showcase my latest 3D models (more specifically, the ones I am not afraid to show in public). The buggy is the first truly complex model I have developed to date. Although the buggy has been completed, I am not sure about the paint job... A detailed look into the buggy's workings is planned for the section, so be sure to check back in the next couple weeks for updates.

Some new wallpapers have been added that employ a rather interesting light effect. Also, the Doodle Wall has been posted which will host all manner of miscellaneous drawings, sketches, and paintings.

Now that Christmas is heading our way again, I have decided to begin another artistic project to celebrate it. Instead of creating an advent calendar as last year, I will instead be creating a simple scene which will gradually become more complicated as time goes on. The scene will stay the same with each update, I will just be adding characters and other things to it. This is my first experiment of this sort, so I guess we will find out together how well it works out.

The front page has been tidied up a little bit. I've pulled off the JavaScript for now since it was causing errors on lower versions of Netscape.

For Hallowe'en I've decided to put up some quick front page graphics, but it has inspired a new section; Darkness' Light. This will be a large sectioned image like the Advent Calendar. However, it will be added to intermittently. In addition, the graphics will be presented in portable network graphics (PNG) format. If you are using a version of Navigator or Internet Explorer lower than 4, you may need a separate plug-in. Please contact me if you have any problems.

The reason for choosing PNG is primarily that it provides 100% image quality, as opposed to JPEG, which offers 80% or worse. Secondly, it is a test to see if those visiting this site are ready for a site using PNG, as I am considering expanding its use on the site. Please do not hesitate to comment on the quality, download time, and any difficulties of the new format.

I am not sure when this happened, but I seem to have lost the link to page 1 of the Mini Epic, which is a recap of the previous part. I have added the link back. In addition, Page 8 and Page 9 are now online, in a new format!

Lastly, some little graphics have been added to the Trinkets section. They have been there for some time, but they were not previously announced.

Finally, there was an error on Page 8 of the Mini Epic. Some old text was included with the final version. I have removed the excess text.

After a disturbingly long period of time, I have returned to my story-telling and painting. Page 7 is up and page 8 is already written! Please note that the content of the story may be veering away from the 0-10 age group. Not that I think I have any readers in this range, nor would they be likely to read the news section, but I thought I would mention it anyhow.

I have decided to link the Wonderings button at the top to Dimensia, since a message board (although a nice experiment) is not entirely useful here.

I have tidied up the front page since it was getting a little cluttered, but have added a link in the Advent Calendar section for a mini-version that is a single image. Good for tall wallpaper.

In addition to the front page clean up, I have also made the Characters section of the Library more uniform.

I am resuming my work on the Mini Epic as well. Page 6 is now available.

Beet's World has moved to the Statia.com domain. The new domain is less business oriented and better suits this type of site. Not all of Beet's World has been moved over, most notably the Wonderings section and the Mail.

The nature of the Wonderings section may change and I would appreciate any suggestions as to its possible use. I originally wanted the section to provide thought provoking reading material.

Once again there is a new set of wallpapers available. Along with the background decorations comes a new trinket that enters the weird realm.

In addition, Dimensia has experienced a quiet update. The graphics are the same, but some substance has been added to the page.

March 19, 1998

New wallpapers! I'm starting to put together a bunch of simple artistic patterns. Please comment on the ones you like and tell me about the ones you hate! If you have any special wallpaper requests, please send them in.

Hot on the trail of Page 4 comes Page 5! Hmmm, perhaps I had better start titling those pages. :)

Also, I received a nice message noting the current lack of cartoons. Well, I took a quick look and... they're right! The recent proliferation of Ray Dream critters has pushed out my usual Mini Epic cartoons. So, I have decided to get back into the cartoon style. The first cel appears on page 5. It's been awhile and I'm glad I'm getting back to drawing.

Don't forget that the Advent Calendar is still available for viewing. One of my longer cartoon projects.

The fourth segment of the Mini Epic has been added along with accompanying graphic of Snowy. This particular image was done by Adam Blahut with some minor shader and positional tweakings done by myself.

Also, Beet's World's new home domain has a start page! Check out www.Statia.com. This is where Beet will be moving to eventually. A link to Beet's World will keep you current should this site ever have to wander away again. Just look for Beet's world.

February 10, 1998

The first installment of the Mini Epic is now available. I am still developing the navigation scheme for the pages, so expect it to change. Right now there is just the Reader, a rather large animated GIF (forgive me). However, I think it will be alright since if you actually read the Mini Epic, by the time you are done, the image will have completed loading. Tell me if you disagree or have problems with it.

After a long period of no net access and some server quirks, the site is back in motion. A new application has been added to this site's repertoire: Ray Dream Studio 5 from Metacreations (previously Fractal Design). As you may have noticed, the newest graphic additions are not exactly hand drawn. Ray Dream Studio is a 3D design program and it is great for creating weird little web knick knacks.

A new dimension has been added to Beet's World and it resides in Dimensia. As of now, Dimensia is simply a crib for my first 3D babies. Soon, another more advanced creature will debut on this site: Poitemps. This being is currently in development.

Finally, the Mini Epic is preparing to resume! Part II: Here to Stay will continue the adventures of Beet, Cyrn, and Key at the point at which Part I left off. Unlike the previous part, the format for this section of the epic will be much more text oriented. This is largely due to the fact that I would really like to be a writer and this site is, as usual, my avenue of experimentation. Do not fret though, I will have 1-2 images per episode. The amount of text for the first page is more than one should expect for the first episode, since it is really just a recap of part 1.

A new section has been added to the Toyland: Iconia. It's a compilation of all my best home-made icons and animated cursors. Actually, not my best animated cursors, since a hard disk crash killed them a long time ago. :( I will provide instructions on how to use them if anyone requests it.
